VA health disaster
In Murfreesboro, TN, Augusta, GA, and Miami, FL the VA hospitals have had four vets develop HIV/AIDS due to unsanitized equipment after receiving colonoscopies or ENT exams.
kc_risenphoenix reports the situation in this post.
IF YOU ARE A VET AND YOU HAVE USED ANY OF THESE FACILITIES PLEASE GO GET A BLOOD TEST. Pass the word.
An AP article states The VA statement shows the number of “potentially affected” patients totals 10,797, including 6,387 who had colonoscopies at Murfreesboro, 3,341 who had colonoscopies at Miami and 1,069 who were treated at the ear, nose and throat clinic at Augusta.
A second article links hepatitis B and hepatitis C with the same facilities due to the same failures of sterility.
A third article states, "More than 10,000 veterans have been warned to get blood tests because they could have been exposed to contamination at facilities Tennessee, Georgia and Miami. All three sites failed to properly sterilize endoscopic equipment between treatments. The VA has said patients could have been exposed to body fluids from a previous patient."
This, my friends, is the medical system our vets return home to. It's the system I have to use because I have no way of affording other medical care. It has been miserably flawed and killing people for years. Sterilization of equipment is BASIC maintenance. This is disgusting.

Holy crap, yes, it is disgusting. I hope someone holds those hospitals liable.
Just...horrible.
But since I was living in middle Tennessee up until last August, it makes me REAL glad that I had private health insurance and was able to have my periodic colonoscopy done by a GI doc whom my wife the nurse knows and trusts.
WTF?!?
Having had a colonoscopy, I know how invasive and embarassing it can be!
GODS! I'm glad I live in Michigan, where the Ann Arbor VA is a good one!
I feel soooo bad for those others, though!
